Oriental Basalt as the name suggests is a chinese basalt and is a strong, hardy stone. Offered in a honed finish, it is a smooth, sleek stone with subtle shades of grey. A large range of tile sizes allow this diverse stone to be used just about anywhere for anything whether a feature chimney breast, commercial backdrop or conservatory floor, the possibilities are huge.

Basalt is a volcanic (igneous) stone that has been used in architecture for centuries and is thought to be one of the main components of oceanic crust. The fissures and small holes in the surface are evidence of the earth's natural gasses flowing through and escaping from the stone. Basalt's are rich in magnesium, feldspar, pyroxene and iron, with hints of olivine and amphibole; all of which are siliceous materials similar to those in a granite. It is also a porous material with naturally-occurring holes that may remain unfilled or be factory-filled with resin or cement.
